September is always a time of great excitement throughout the Verona winemaking areas. Harvest is upon us, and it’s therefore time to reflect on the months of hard work that have just passed and on the prospects for the 2025 wines.
Once again, the fact that, meteorologically, the only certainty is uncertainty is confirmed. This summer, in fact, was once again characterized by unpredictable events, from very heavy and significant rainfall to periods of prolonged drought. The abundant rains between late May and June, followed by high temperatures and sunny days, provided a significant boost to grape growth and the beginning of veraison. This alternating pattern of rainfall and heat waves that has affected the entire summer so far has allowed for an increase in grape weight, and the most renowned varieties are in optimal condition at this stage of the ripening cycle. From a phytosanitary standpoint, the grapes are also healthy, and the damage caused by downy mildew is much less severe than in the previous year. Forecasts for the province of Verona predict a particularly positive harvest, with increases of up to 10% for Corvina and Garganega. Just a few more days and we’ll finally be able to begin reaping the fruits of this year’s work, efforts, and hopes.
In short, all we can do for now is cross our fingers and hope for dry weather in the coming weeks, allowing for a smooth grape harvest. In the meantime, we’ve organized, also this year, a few days in which you can experience the harvest, a moment that, besides a little effort, undoubtedly brings great satisfaction and shared moments. Don’t miss the opportunity to become a winemaker for a day, Friday, September 26th or Thursday, October 2nd, at the Fugolo Gianluca winery. It will be an opportunity to spend a day among the vineyards, enjoying fun and the flavors of our region. Check all the details and availability on the dedicated page on our website!
