Wine and Art in Verona 9.09.21

Following the shades of red of a good glass of red wine, we will discover how much "red" is present in the heart and in the art of Verona. We will visit the beautiful Church of San Zeno, a jewel of the Veronese Romanesque, which houses medieval and Renaissance masterpieces, in search of the details that the wine, the vine, the bunches have left in the architectural and pictorial decoration of the church. We will be captured by the pink and red color of its marbles and in the shade of the cloister columns, we will see how art and wine are intimately connected. After visiting the church, we will walk along the banks of the Adige river, admiring the Veronese hills of Valpolicella where wine has been grown since Roman times. We will then arrive at the castle of the Scaligeri, the powerful family that dominated the city of Verona in the medieval period and that left a strong mark on the city's architecture. We will climb the red brick bridge and see the panorama of the city from the patrol walkways, passing between battlements and towers. In fact, we will enter the castle called Castelvecchio, whose museum now houses a rich collection of paintings. Leaving the castle we will return to the tracks of the Roman chariots, discovering the particularities of the Veronese cuisine which used wine as an ingredient for many of its dishes. Finally, we will walk on a real Roman road from two thousand years ago, imagining the river and land transports that carried the wine from our Veronese hills. At this point there will be nothing better than taking a break and tasting the wine, perhaps from a particular underground point of view, accessible only to us!
