Il Monte Caro Caro
The story of Il Monte Caro began in 1986, when Enzo Marcolini, along with his wife Carla, fell in love with a magical yet rugged and rocky place in the Mezzane Valley, in eastern Valpolicella. It was here that their farm was born, spanning 7 hectares of vineyards, olive groves, and woodland. Today, it is managed by their children, Emanuela and Giorgio, producing artisanal wines and extra virgin olive oil with a style that values simplicity, freshness, and authenticity, which have always been the family’s hallmarks.
Since Emanuela and Giorgio took over the company in 2014, their focus has been entirely on respecting the hill’s natural environment. For this reason, they have chosen to work organically, paying ever greater attention to soil vitality and biodiversity, planting fruit trees, studying the wild herbs that grow in the vineyards, and maintaining some beehives. This is a constantly evolving process and makes the company a vibrant and lively place.
The mountain’s soils play an important role in the expressive concept of the wines: Monte Caro is geologically diverse, composed of ammonite red soil, limestone, and flint, and each micro-plot is enhanced in the winemaking process. Each of the wines, each in its own way, expresses the mountain’s personality and thus offers strongly territorial flavors, caressed by a salty note and the tantalizing acidity provided by the soil and the cool breeze of the Lessini Mountains that wafts through the vineyards.
Il Monte Caro is today one of those vibrant places impossible to remain indifferent to, where wine is never just a drink, but culture, sharing, and the expression of an authentic terroir.
