Corte Zardini Zardini
The Zardini family, also known as “Carli da Maràn“, is undoubtedly one of the most well-known families in Marano di Valpolicella. They have over a century of winemaking history, with Ernesto Zardini deciding in 1914 to combine sharecropping with wine production to sell to Veronese taverns. In 1965, the family moved a few kilometers upstream to Pezza, where they purchased the area’s typical marogne vineyards and built the winery, which is still operating today.
In 1996, Maurizio Zardini took over the winery, assisted by his wife, Loretta. The goal was clear: to build a legacy for future generations, transitioning from producing for third-party companies to an independent label, building on their experience in producing the region’s typical wines: Valpolicella Superiore, Ripasso, Amarone, and Recioto. This same passion for their work and for wine has been passed down to Maurizio and Loretta’s children, Marta and Mattia, who now run the company.
The winery and vineyards are located in Pezza, in the municipality of Marano, in the hilly area of Valpolicella Classica. The vineyards, located approximately 350 meters above sea level, grow on terraces called marogne, the typical dry stone walls that line the slopes of Valpolicella. Each plot is tended like a garden, cultivated using traditional pruning techniques (Veronese pergola) and harvested entirely by hand.
In short, visiting Corte Zardini means taking a journey into tradition, surrounded by the verdant rolling hills of Valpolicella. Tradition, yes, but one that is constantly evolving, because the new generation (now the fourth) is young and highly motivated to make its mark, enriching the classic offering with a completely new style and personality.
